It’s a tale as old as time: the geeky girl (a.k.a a beautiful celebrity wearing a pair of thick-rimmed glassed) managing to charm the man of their dreams, perfectly surmising that true beauty is found on the inside. But in Hollywood this is a bit of a contradiction if you pick the most beautiful girls on the planet to play the geeky roles… Nonetheless, here are a few of our favourite beautiful geeks from over the years:
1. Zooey Deschanel.
Zooey Deschanel is certainly flying the flag currently for beautiful geeks everywhere and epitomises that awkwardness so perfectly in her TV show New Girl, which sees her living with three guys who are constantly overwhelmed by her innocent ‘dappyness’.

2. Melissa Rauch.
We’re not sure how the loveable Howard Wolowitz – of Big Bang Theory fame – managed to score Melissa Rauch’s character Bernadette Rostenkowski. The shows producers would have us believe that she is a geeky scientist too but we are not convinced that this would have held her back at all in life looking the way she does.

3. Lea Michele.
One of the most famous geeky, obsessive, compulsive girls of recent popular culture, Lea Michele portrays her Glee character Rachel Berry like no other ever could. Although quite frankly with beauty and singing talent like she apparently possesses there is no way we can believe she would have been the most unpopular girl in school.

4. Alyson Hannigan.
Now here is an actress who has been recognised in the hot geek world for years. Alyson Hannigan first graced our screens as the meek yet loveable Willow in the cult TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then went on to charm the hearts of guys everywhere in the American Pie film franchise. Band camp anyone? Yes, you remember now…

5. Katie Holmes.
Who could forget the moody teenage angst of Dawson’s Creek’s Joey Potter? I think the whole world was in total disbelief that Dawson himself couldn’t see the beauty sitting before him in his geeky next door neighbour Joey but when Pacey got in there instead he certainly started to take notice.

6. Drew Barrymore.
A personal favourite of mine movie-wise, you’ve just got to love Drew Barrymore and her portrayal of ‘Josie Grosie’ in 1999 film Never Been Kissed. But low and behold the “ugly duckling” turned into the most beautiful swan by the end of the movie and ended up getting the guy, quite rightly.

7. Rachel Leigh Cook.
Now who could forget the cult-teen hit She’s All That, which saw the beautiful Rachel Leigh Cook (playing the dowdy geek Laney Boggs), transformed by a very young Freddie Prinze Jnr into the prom queen. This was quite the fairy tale by modern day standards – for 1999 anyway!

8. Emma Stone.
There is no denying that Emma Stone perfectly sums up the modern day version of ‘geek-chic’ and this was put to perfect use in the Amazing Spiderman films as hard-working, prim and proper Gwen Stacy.

9. Emma Watson.
It can definitely be argued that Emma Watson changed the reputation of hard-working geeky girls everywhere, with her portrayal of the feisty Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies. Although only a young girl when they first started, Emma made sure that men and/or boys will definitely think twice about giving hardworking girls grief again!

10. Anna Kendrick.
Although more of an inbetweener in the Pitch Perfect franchise, Anna Kendrick set the precedent for girls everywhere who just don’t seem to fit in and through her character Beca taught people to find solace in what they do best (which in this case for Anna is definitely singing).
